Restored

Well after quite a bit of time, I am back up again. Another hardware failure and a move from my trusty old host to mediatemple. More things in the works and off we go. Happy

iPhone Dev Camp followup

The follow-up to the barcamp for the iPhone was quite productive. There is a list of apps available at their site.

iDevelop 4 iPhone

Apple has officially launched the iPhone developer's section to their site. It seems fairly light in offerings and logging into my developer account does not offer much more information. This weekend there is a Barcamp iPhone developer meeting in San Francisco; hopefully we will learn more about developing for the iPhone from there.

Craaaaaaaasshhh…

Spent the better part of the last couple of weeks recovering from a hard drive failure. Although all critical components are backed up ad nauseum, several items had escaped the last backup cycle. This presents no real issues other than major inconvenience.

Even with my files backed up, getting the system back to the level of functionality that I had before the crash is a chore. All of the shortcuts, file structures, etc. had to be reestablished and I am just over half-way back to full function. My main goal was to get the client work back on line and in process to deliver and then my work and projects restored.

This probably sets me back a bit on the refresh of the site as well as some other products we have been working towards.. Ultimately, however, I learned to back up the hard in the early '90s, so all critical information was safe and secure on multiple medias.

Red Rock Micro & the M2

index_01

This has got to be one of the cooler items I have found just recently. Profiled in the latest issue of Studio Monthly, Red Rock Micro's M2; a 35mm lens adapter for small format video cameras. Essentially the M2 is an adapter that connects your video camera to all of your 35mm lenses floating around your studio.

Only a few more hours…

Picture 1

A couple more hours to go and I cannot wait to see what Steve announces in SF. There are tons of rumours of what will be announced today at the MacWorld show, but I hope at least we get a full screen iPod and new mobile device from Apple. A slick Apple phone would be great if they have managed to pull off the technical issues.

Oh well…tick tock.

EDIT

Well what a show it was. The Apple TV was a big deal, but naturally the item that floored everyone, especially those folks over a the CES show, was Apple's new iPhone.

Steve started the keynote talking about the new Apple TV

Apple also introduced a new Airport that offers some great features.

A lot of great technology came out of the keynote and more stuff is coming out of the show. I am looking forward to getting one of everything.

Crown Graphic

Graflex Crown Graphic Camera

As technology continues to march on, and information overloads us at all turns, I am reaching to the past. I am now awaiting delivery of a Graflex Crown Graphic camera…a camera made sometime in the '50s. It is a larger format, 4X5, camera that is capable of shooting medium format and Polaroid films as well.

I have never used a camera like this and am expecting a bit of a learning curve in order to get up to speed with this style of shooting. However, I am extremely excited to learn this manner of photography and incorporate it into my portfolio. I will recount issues here, as well as include shots in the plog. If you have any pointers, please feel free to pass them along to me.

Picture is worth a thousand words

Holga Toy Camera

In an effort to create more quality images, and to just have fun doing things I love, last week I started posting a plog (photo blog). Ideally, it will ultimately showcase new photography, and other visual media, completely disassociated with work; it is strictly ars gratia artis. Some of these images, at the start, may be from a backlog of the literally thousands of images I have taken this year. In time, it will be content created strictly for the plog.

Michelangelo was said to be haunted by the spirit to leave a body of work…now I have not even a thousandth of the skill of the great master. But I wll persevere, nonetheless, in my own small drive to leave a body of work for my girls.

iMac, now means intel Mac

indexfrontrow20060109

I have recently upgraded to a new machine. I got tired of waiting for the latest and greatest, although any announcement made today at WWDC may make me rethink that strategy, and bought a 20" iMac. Developing sites, and other associated creative endeavors, necessitated a faster machine. With Adobe products being a staple of any designer's toolset, I was curious to see if the new machine would be able to run those apps without a serious hit from Rosetta. Read More...
