Took some time the other day to read to my older daughter’s class, N.C. Wyeth’s Pilgrims for the holiday. It is a great book that retells the story of the Pilgrims emigration to the new world through a wonderful narrative. The real prize here, however, is the use of N. C. Wyeth’s painting....

Maka's Surf Shop is the playground of mine, Matthew Gallagher. Maka, as I was told by a nice Hawaiian man I met during my honeymoon, is the closest Hawaiian equivalent to Matthew. It sounded like a strong name, and I adopted it over time for this site.
